"Focus On Image" by Terry Pytlarz (Volume 1)

  • East Avenue Viaduct Erie, PA 16501 (map)

WHEN: New Year’s Day, 2014

WHERE: East Avenue Viaduct Erie, PA

TECHNICAL DATA:
.3 sec at f/4, ISO 1000
75mm (EF24-105 f/4L IS USM)
Canon 7D
Tripod

WHY: About three years ago I saw this shot from the other side of the bridge during the day. I couldn’t take a picture at the time and it took a while for me to get back to the right conditions…including shooting this image at night. As it happened, the conditions were excellent on New Year’s Day 2014.

HOW: I had to boost ISO to get a fast enough shutter speed, of course, but I still dragged the shutter to get a bit of motion blur on the person. It was a fun shot and really glad I returned to the location. I was fortunate that I didn’t have to wait long. This gentleman was the second of two to walk over this now abandoned inner city bridge. I wanted an image of this bridge before it’s torn down (the debate is on). The fading number of street lights is a testament to its probable demise.
